This phrase makes me chuckle every time I hear it. It reminds me of the camaraderie I enjoyed early in my Civil Service career. There are a few theories about the origin of the phrase but the meaning stays the same – it’s the retelling of a story or joke numerous times. Yes I’ve been doing more networking and it’s fair to say not all groups are the same. Some are definitely more intimidating than others, so it was comforting to hear other people have also been in my quaking shoes pitching to a room full of strangers.
The most recent session I attended was with Time4Networking. There was a warm, friendly, relaxed atmosphere which encouraged conversation. I spent time getting to know people, sharing tips and experience on a variety of subjects. We also shared the journey of how we each came to the moment where branching out alone was the best option.
Through my passionate descriptions of how copywriting can help, I experienced an epiphany moment. Given the right circumstances and willing audience I can confidently promote myself. Yea! What’s more it happened instinctively. There was no script or set format I felt forced to comply with. I spoke naturally, listened, shared and responded to other business people I could relate to. There are a few more networking groups I would like to visit before I decide which format suits me best, but this one will definitely get a revisit.
Nice, glad it worked out!
